Pastoral Letter

June 21, 2006

Dear Friends and Members of the St. Thomas More Society,

Many of you have told me how pleased you were to receive from Bishop Dougherty the news that my letter and dossier have been sent to Rome for the Holy Father's consideration. Unfortunately, Bishop Dougherty was not able to stay at the Conference that Tuesday afternoon, so that you could express your gratitude for his pastoral concern for our Society.

Fortunately, he will be with us this Sunday, and I encourage you to be here to greet him in person. Because of kinks in the schedules of the men who are able to celebrate the Anglican Use Mass, none of them can be with us this weekend, owing largely to the ordinations that will take place on Saturday morning. Thus, Bishop John Dougherty, Auxiliary Bishop of Scranton, will celebrate the Anglican Use Mass this Sunday, June 25th at 1PM at St. Clare Church.

The purpose of this e-mail, then, is twofold. First, be advised that the Diocese of Scranton will have two new priests after this Saturday. Fr. Christopher Sahd, Bishop Martino's Secretary, has promised me to reserve space at St. Peter's Cathedral for the membership of the St. Thomas More Society, if we have parties interested in assisting at this important Mass. If you would like to come to the Ordination Mass at 10AM on Saturday, June 24th, please let me know as soon as possible. I'll be there and I would love to have you there with me, both to the glory of God and for the benefit of the men who will be ordained to the priesthood.

Second, Bishop Dougherty has been very kind in his ministry to us, his constant advocacy on our behalf, and he deserves the thanks of as many as can offer it. If you are able to come to the 1PM Mass this week at St. Clare, please do so, and linger afterwards to greet this fine shepherd to the faithful in the Diocese of Scranton.

I look forward to hearing from you, even as I give thanks for your part in our mission.

Yours in Christ,
Eric Bergman,
Director, St. Thomas More Society Scranton, Pennsylvania
